HOW IS AUSTRIA ORGANISED TO GET ENGAGED IN IPBES?

The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology hosts the national focal point of IPBES and coordinates the IPBES related work in Austria.

 

NOMINATION PROCESS 

The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology currently endorses all Austrian nominations.

 

CONTRIBUTION TO THE IPBES WORK PROGRAMME 

Austria’s Biodiversity Strategy 2020+ foresees stronger engagement with international instruments and institutions such as IPBES. Austria participates regularly at plenaries and other IPBES activities at expert level. The NFP coordinates and informs stakeholders and experts through the website and specific events.

TYPE OF ENGAGEMENT WITH STAKEHOLDERS

The national focal point engages mostly with IPBES stakeholders through the national committee on biodiversity and it informs further stakeholders on IPBES outcomes through different channels such as the ministry’s website or during specific events.

The national committee on biodiversity consists of representatives of other ministries, federal offices, NGOs, federal states, universities, social partners, and other interest groups.
